Developing independence and autonomy in young children is crucial for cognitive development as it empowers them to think critically, solve problems, and make decisions; fostering a strong sense of self confidence.
Westcliff Early Learning Academy’s Primary Program provides a curriculum inspired by Montessori, Reggio Emilia, and Nature pedagogies; where students can challenge themselves, take initiative, and become increasingly independent. With a natural home-like environment that promotes tranquility, children can work individually or collaborate with their classmates on projects that stimulate cognitive, physical, and social development. Provocations throughout the classroom are specifically designed to be thought-provoking and inspire curiosity.
Westcliff Early Learning Academy believes in creating emotional intelligence and mindfulness—the practice of understanding feelings, and how the mind and body experience them through unstructured time in nature.
Our natural playground has many spaces available to children that enhance their development of self-awareness and a sense of belonging as they become more empathetic to the natural world.
Westcliff provides opportunities for learning by doing both direct and indirect instruction on acquiring new knowledge and skills. Children can work individually or collaborate with their classmates on projects. The classroom experiences foster the development of problem solving skills and social emotional learning.
The classroom materials are made of natural materials to promote tranquility using a variety of art, plants, and sculptures. All classrooms are multi-aged, and the curriculum is individually tailored towards the child’s interests.
