Dual language option for Toddler and Primary programs
Westcliff Early Learning Academy’s dual language program is designed to harness the language learning abilities of young children by introducing them to dual languages at a critical stage of development. With a focus on Vietnamese and French language acquisition, this program aims to provide young children with a rich linguistic foundation while fostering cognitive growth and cultural appreciation.
Dual Language Approach
The program adopts a dual language approach, where students are immersed in both their native language and Vietnamese or French. The curriculum is structured to capitalize on the optimal age range of 1 to 5 years, ensuring their brains are primed for language acquisition. I-LABS’ research shows we can create an early bilingual learning environment for dual-language learners in an educational setting, and in as little as one hour per day, young children can ignite the learning of a second language earlier and much easier than we previously thought.
Play-Based Learning
The curriculum centers around play-based learning, acknowledging the significance of social interaction and engagement in language development. Through games, interactive activities, and collaborative exercises, children naturally absorb the Vietnamese or French language in a stimulating and enjoyable environment.
“Child-Directed Speech” Technique
Utilizing the proven “child-directed speech” technique, often referred to as “parentese,” instructors communicate with students using simplified speech patterns. This approach, which has demonstrated success in previous studies, eases language comprehension and accelerates vocabulary acquisition.
Cultural Immersion
The program goes beyond language acquisition, introducing students to Vietnamese or French culture, traditions, and values. Cultural exposure contributes to a holistic understanding of the language and fosters a sense of cultural appreciation from a young age.
Long-Term Retention
Inspired by the research’s findings, the program is structured to ensure long-term retention of the Vietnamese or French language. Follow-up assessments and reinforcement activities ensure that language gains persist well beyond the program’s duration.
